Rally Track

After attending the Farnham round of Slot Rally GB I decided to build a rally track to take to some of next years events.

The track is based around a farm with a hill section at one end. There is one lane that crosse over so you do the whole track twice for one complete lap.

Firstly, the track was designed on UR3.0. A free download software that enables you to use different manufacturers track to design any layout you can think of.

2 x 1500mm x 900mm x 12mm MDF boards were made up and strengthened with 50mm x 25mm timber.

The layout then gets transfered onto the boards.

The raised section was cut out of a seperate piece. Slot were cut underneath to make it easier to bend.

.

Once the slot is routed, filler is used to cover the screw fixing holes and the raised section is secured in place. Some of the buildings are placed just to get an idea of what it will look like when finished.

Once the filler has been rubbed down the boards then get sealed with a PVA / water mix. Then the copper gets laid. Some people lay the copper after painting, but I prefer to paint afterwards. It ensures the copper has no lumps under it.

Masking tape is put over the copper.

The boards are then painted and scenic flock added.

Stone walls were cast and moulds made and then poured from resin. Resin is easy to drill and the walls are fixed from below with screws.
